A New Home For Live Events

Niantic’s live events were growing in frequency, and thus needed an accessible place where users could view upcoming events and purchase tickets. I designed a Live Events web app to accommodate this. My role was full end-to-end UX designer, and I worked with two skilled engineers for implementation. The timeline was about 2 months from concept to launch. After speaking with key stakeholders from Product, Live Ops, and Marketing I outlined my goals for the project:

User goals:

  • An informational place where you can browse events

  • A simple ticket purchase design that felt familiar and trustworthy

Product goals:

  • Scaleable for future events across company platforms and products

  • Simple enough to build in a few engineering sprints

  • Web-based for easy plug in to any Niantic product or website

Prototype

Below is the prototype I created for the landing page and “purchase ticket” flow on mobile.

Cross Platform Responsive Design

For my cross platform design on wider screens, I kept the layout very similar. I utilized the expanded horizontal space to show more content above the fold. During the ticket checkout, I allow users to select a quantity and view their subtotal on one page, as opposed to mobile screens where it is divided into two pages.

Below are sample screens from different devices.

Success

The product was immediately put to use and continues to be the company’s live events home.

Below is an article on the success and economical impact for a few recent live events. All 3 events mentioned were advertised and users purchased their tickets through the web app I designed.
